Sara Troge, Paralegal - Medical Malpractice

undefinedSara Troge is a Medical Malpractice Litigation Paralegal at Watson & Carroll. She graduated from Iowa Western Community College with an Associate of Arts in Criminal Justice, and Buena Vista University with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice/Business Management. She served in the United States Air Force as a Security Police Officer after high school and worked surveillance and fraud investigation for various employers prior to college. During college she interned with the Fourth Judicial District Department of Corrections/Probation in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and the United States Probation Office in Omaha, Nebraska. She also volunteered as a Court-Appointed Special Advocate for Southwest Iowa CASA (abused and neglected children) and worked for her stepdad, the late Craig H. Borlin, Attorney, all while being a “stay-at-home” mom. Her paralegal experience consists mainly of defense litigation in the areas of medical malpractice, personal injury, and worker’s compensation.

Sara was born in Mountain View, California, and moved to rural Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of three. She grew up riding motorcycles; being taught by her stepdad at the age of eight, rescuing animals on her parents' acreages, raising animals, and loving nature and everything that growing up in the country had to offer. Her love for animals and rescuing them landed her in the hospital with her first of many concussions at the age of ten, and since then she has adopted, adopted out, and cared for many more animals.

Sara has one daughter, Addison, who will be attending college in the fall of 2019. In her free time, Sara enjoys watching her daughter compete athletically, as well as show cattle through her 4-H club and Aksarben. In addition to spending time with Addison, Sara enjoys reading many books at one time, photography, writing, hiking, anything involving nature, watching sports, astronomy, and listening to all genres of music.

She enjoys using her compassion and skills to help others, for a law firm that puts people first.

Ashley Lantis, Paralegal- Workers' Compensation

undefinedAshley was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. She graduated from Omaha North High School. Ashley’s journey into the legal field began in 2003, when she became a receptionist for an Omaha law firm (coincidentally, at the same firm at which David Handley was working, and with whom she works now). In 2005, Ashley became a legal assistant at Berkshire & Burmeister. Later, Ashley worked with Rich Schicker, and, in 2018, Watson & Carroll happily welcomed Ashley to the team.

Ashley both enjoys and excels in working with people, legal procedures, and deadlines. Being a legal assistant allows Ashley to combine and utilize her three professional aptitudes in a way that helps people who need it most. Ashley’s favorite part about working at Watson & Carroll is being able to assist our injured clients in finding appropriate treatment and legal closure. In this way, being a legal assistant is more than just a job for her. For that and many other reasons, Ashley is a perfect fit for Watson & Carroll.

Outside the office, Ashley spends time with her amazing family, including her four children. Ashley’s hobbies are vast and diverse, and her artwork is impressive. At any given time, you will find her working on three to four separate projects, some for fun and some at the request of charitable fundraisers. Ashley loves to complete projects with her children for the fun of it and says her projects keep her grounded.

Barbara Moussa, Paralegal- Social Security Disability

undefinedBarbara was born on Incirlik Air Force Base, Ankara, Turkey and was raised on Navy Compounds/Air Force Bases all over Southeast Asia. Barbara loved being an Air Force brat and living in different countries. Barbara and her family returned to the USA in 1977, when she was 13. She attended and graduated from high school in Central City, Nebraska. (Go Eagles!)

Barbara attended Grace University and Metro Community College, and upon graduation she worked at the Social Security Administration, Office of Disability, Adjudication, and Review. Barbara left there and worked with a private attorney practicing Social Security Disability law, until 2015 when the firm closed due to the attorney’s retirement. Barbara then spent three years with Lincoln Financial Group analyzing and adjudicating Short Term Disability claims and then left to join the team at Watson & Carroll on July 6, 2018.

Barbara feels very fortunate to be able to assist people who have a disability. She is a champion for folks trying to begin a new chapter of life. She believes strongly – because she has seen it numerous times - that one’s ability is always stronger than one’s disability. Barbara enjoys her time away from the office by being with her grandchildren and children, and - of course - going to the greatest and most beautiful place on earth, the Missouri Ozarks!
